MSCI ACWI
The MSCI All Country World Index (ACWI) is the ultimate benchmark for global equity investing. It combines both Developed and Emerging markets into a single, comprehensive index.
One Index for Everything
While the MSCI World only covers developed nations, the ACWI adds 24 Emerging MarketsCountries like China, India, and Brazil. It covers approximately 85% of the total global investable opportunity set.
Weighting and Exposure
Because it is market-cap weighted, the ACWI is essentially an 88/12 split between Developed and Emerging markets. It is the core benchmark for most large institutional pension funds and sovereign wealth funds.
Sector Diversity
The ACWI provides broad exposure across all GICS sectors. Technology remains the largest sector, but the inclusion of Emerging Markets adds more exposure to industrial growth and materials compared to a pure Western-focused index.
Context
A fund on the MSCI ACWI covers developed and emerging markets in one product. Regional weights follow market capitalisation and therefore shift automatically, without rebalancing between several funds.
